Various Public Service Commissions in the States in India in the service of the Nation

State PSCs Sarkari NaukriThe Public Service Commissions of the States in the country are constituted by the Governor of the respective States under Articles 315, 316 and 319 of the Constitution and the functions of these Commissions include Direct Recruitment, Recruitment by transfer, Statutory rules relating to services, Disciplinary cases, Reimbursement of legal expenses and wound and extraordinary pension cases.

The avowed objectives of these Commissions are to ensure free, fair and transparent recruitment procedures for the States, constantly updating the recruitment methodology, suitably advising the Governments on matters relating to public servants and safeguarding the interest of public servants with aims at creating and nurturing public service, which is independent, impartial, ethical and effective. 

The Commissions are mostly entrusted with the items of work like – Conduct of examinations for recruitment to Government posts and conducting departmental tests

* The AP Public Service Commission came into existence on 1st November 1956, along with formation of the State of Andhra Pradesh. It is manned by one Chairman and 9 Members. Its head office is at Hyderabad and its website is http://www.apspsc.gov.in/

* The Madras Public Service Commission came into existence while India was under British rule. The current composition of the Committee is Chairman and 8 Members. It is now called Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission, It is located at Chennai and its website is http://www.tnpsc.gov.in/index.html

* The Karnataka Public Service Commission was constituted on 18.05.1951. Presently, it has a Chairman and 7 Members. It is having its Head Office at Bengaluru. Its website is http://kpsc.kar.nic.in/

* The Maharashtra Public Service Commission was constituted long back during the British rule, while it was a Presidency. Presently it is having one Chairman and 3 Members. It is located at Mumbai and its website is http://www.mpsc.gov.in/indexe.jsp

* The West Bengal Public Service Commission was formed at Calcutta. Calcutta was the first Capital of India under the British and subsequently, it remained as Presidency and the Public Service Commission was constituted under the British rule itself. Its website is http://www.pscwb.org.in.

* Kerala Public Service Commission was constituted at Thiruvananthapuram with 3 Regional Offices and 14 District Offices. Earlier, prior to 14th June 1932, a Public Service Commissioner used to attend to these duties in the Travancore State.  Presently it is having 1 Chairman and 20 Members. * Since Goa, Diu and Daman are Union Territories; UPSC takes up the functions of a State Public Service Commission.

* Gujarat Public Service Commission is manned by a Chairman and 5 Members. Its website is http://www.gpsc.gujarat.gov.in.
