How to prepare for SBI Clerk Exam 2014?

State Bank of India has issued a notification for filling up nationwide 5092 vacancies in the cadre of Clerk. Candidate holding a Degree/ those going to pass out the degree soon are eligible to apply. Let us examine how we can best utilise this golden opportunity to settle our life in Banking Field.


Applications are to be submitted for SBI Clerk post on-line and the last date for submission is14th June. Date of the examination has not been notified; however, indications are there that it will be conducted in July/ August of 2014. A candidate can apply only in one State. As far as this phase of SBI recruitment is concerned, a candidate can appear for the examination only once. Attractive pay scale is presently available in the cadre and upward revision of the scale is under active consideration of the Government. It means that the package under consideration by the Government will be still more attractive.

SBI Recruitment Eligibility conditions:


Age: Minimum age 21 years and Maximum age 28 years. Relaxations will be available to some of the categories as per Government rules in the matter.

Academic qualifications: Should have completed Degree in any discipline by 31st August 2014. Final year Degree students also are eligible to apply for SBI Clerk vacancies; however such students should submit a Certificate, showing therein that they have passed the Degree by 31st August 2014 at the time of appearing for interview.

Candidates appearing for the State Bank of India recruitment examination should carry with them one of the following proofs of ID – Passport/ Aadhar Card/ Driving Licence/ PAN Card/ Voter Identity Card.

Should qualify in all sections of the Objective Test and candidates will be called for interview in the order of the total marks secured by them in the test. 3 candidates for 1 post will be called for interview. List of selected candidate will be uploaded on to the State Bank’s website careers page.

Candidates should download the Call Letters from the SBI Bank’s Website from 9th July, 2014. Note that they will not be sent by post. Candidates appearing for the interview should secure the minimum qualifying marks.

A combined list will be prepared with the marks obtained in the Objective On-line test and Interview. Depending upon the vacancies available in SBI, final selection will be made category-wise purely on the basis of the combined marks.

Preparation Plan for SBI Clerk Exam 2014


Those, who are preparing to appear for the SBI Bank POs test to be conducted soon, need not put special efforts for this examination. Even though it is Clerks examination, the standard will be equivalent to IBPS PO standard and therefore, it should not be undermined for preparation. Especially standards of questions in Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude subjects will not be less than those for POs. Questions in General English, General Awareness, Computer & Marketing Aptitudesections will have the same weightage (40 marks) and therefore it is a good opportunity to score more marks with less effort.

SBI Written Test: Quantitative Aptitude

Unlike in SBI PO test, Quantitative Aptitude part will be similar to IBPS PO test covering more topics. In reasoning paper also the standard will be likely to be high in Reasoning (Basic Reasoning) with difficult questions consuming more time allotted for the test. In the preparation for General Awareness, magazines like Banking Services Chronical should be followed. Current financial sector developments should be followed through the News Papers and must be thorough with the trends.

SBI Written Test: General English:

 Thorough preparation in Grammar, Vocabulary and Comprehension (GVC) will make the candidate ready to face it with confidence any competitive test and it is equally true in case of preparation for General English.

Computer Basics Marketing Updates are the key areas to face this part of the test.

Oral Interview:

Since the ratio for calling candidates, who passed the SBI Clerical written test, to be called for interview is 1:3, candidates should be extra cautious. It is essential that candidates should secure the minimum qualifying marks in the Oral Interview. Candidates facing the SBI Clerical interview must be active and vigilant. They must possess good confidence with a unique individuality of their own. It should be remembered that this Interview is a test relating to the candidate’s individuality. In answering the questions, the candidate should exhibit trustworthy trait and positive outlook. Above all, make a note that it is a test for value based individuality rather than the candidate’s subject knowledge.
